Richard Zimmer was raised in an artistic environnment (his mother was a visual artist, his father Ján Zimmer and grandfather Jozef Grešák were musical composers). After completing his university study he worked in 1982 - 1985 as second conductor of the State Philharmonic Košice. In the period 1985 – 1990, succeeding Ladislav Slovák, he took on the position of conductor-in-chief of that body. Apart from the hundreds of concerts which he has given with the State Philharmonic in Košice at home and abroad, he has made guest appearances in Germany, Spain, Hungary, France and Cuba. He has recorded for former Czechoslovak Radio and Television. Since the 1990s he has been involved in business enterprise.
