Jozef Búda belonged to the significant personalities of Slovak musical culture. He worked in the field of culture in Poprad and the Ministry of Culture as a head of department of Interest-Artistic activities.

His professional life was connected mainly with two major musical institutions – Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina and Poprad Children's Choir. He was the director of Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina for more than 18 years. During this time the orchestra became an acclaimed chamber ensemble at home and abroad. Jozef Búda also initiated the Central European Music Festival in Žilina (founded 1991) and served as an active member of the festival committee.

As a music teacher and experienced choirmaster he actively worked for three decades in choir singing and he became a significant personality in Slovakia as well as abroad at the theoretical, organizational and practical level.

He founded Children's Choir Prieboj in Prievidza, was a conductor of mixed choir Rozkvet and artistic director of mixed choir Cantus in Bratislava. Primarily, however, he merged with Poprad Children's Choir of Music School in Poprad who under his leadership won many outstanding awards at international and domestic competitions and festivals.
