Matej Sloboda, as a composer, creates works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, solo instrument, choir, chamber groups with a prominent solo instrument, as well as electronic and improvised music. He also writes music for films and commercials. His compositions have been presented at festivals such as ISCM World Music Days – South Korea, Melos-Étos, Orfeus, Asynchronie, White Night, and others.
Since the founding of the chamber ensemble EnsembleSpectrum in 2012, he has been its artistic director and dramaturge. He has collaborated with leading artists such as Milan Paľa, Branislav Dugovič, Ivan Šiller, and Enikö Ginzery within the Ensemble Ricercata residency project, as well as with Marie Jacquot, Marián Lejava, Štefan Sedlický, Konstantin Ilievsky, Miroslava Matisová, Petra Torkošová, the Mucha Quartet, DIY Instruments Ensemble, and with student ensembles such as studEND.doc, Ensemble Asynchrónie, and the Wind Orchestra of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
