About competition

The International Singing Competition of Mikuláš Schneider Trnavský takes place every second year in Trnava, Slovakia.

The main goal of the competition is to support young singers, stimulate their artistic growth, promote works for singing with an emphasis on the work of Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský and select participants for other international singing competitions.

The most important Slovak singing competition is named after Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský, whose name resonates in the professional and lay public primarily as a creator of art and sacred song, an arranger of folk song and an author of sacred vocal-instrumental compositions. However, Schneider-Trnavský was also an important co-creator of music-educational institutions of professional music culture.

This year, 73 competitors from twelve countries entered the competition.

The competition takes place in two categories, which are determined on the basis of the difficulty of the repertoire performed. The chairwoman of the international jury is Eva Blahová (Slovakia), a leading performer and teacher of vocal art. The other members of the jury are Jozef Kundlák (Slovakia), Peter Dvorský (Slovakia), Martina Zadro (Croatia), Tadeusz Pszonka (Poland), Toril Carlsen (Norway), Gabriela Beňačková (Czech Republic), Ariane Hollaender - Calix (Austria) and Wiktor Bockman (Switzerland).

Piano accompaniment is provided by accompanists Xénia Šuleř Maskalíková (Slovakia) and Róbert Pechanec (Slovakia).

The five days of competition, during which applicants from all over the world will be presented to the jury, will conclude with an Awards ceremony and the Winner’s concert. In addition to the main prizes awarded in two categories, there are also other special prizes awarded by the Music Centre, the City of Trnava, the Trnava Self-Governing Region, the Music Fund and other partners, such as the opportunity to be a guest in one of the partner theatres in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
