The Music Centre Slovakia in cooperation with the Self-Governing Trnava Region and the City of Trnava, announces

26th Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský International Vocal Competition,

which will take place from 18 to 25 May 2025 at the Jan Palárik Theatre in Trnava (Slovakia).

The main goal of the competition is to support young singers, encourage their artistic growth, and promote vocal works with a focus on the compositions of Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský. This prestigious Slovak singing competition is named after Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský, whose name resonates in both professional and lay communities as a creator of artificial and spiritual songs, an arranger of folk songs, and an author of sacred vocal-instrumental compositions.

All competitors advancing to the second round must also perform compositions from the works of Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský.

Among the winners of the past editions of the competition we can find personalities such as Peter Dvorský, Ľubica Orgonášová, Miroslav Dvorský, Magdaléna Kožená, Štefan Kocán, Slávka Zámečníková and many others, whose competition helped to launch the careers of important opera singers not only in Slovakia, but also in the world.

The 3-round competition takes place in two categories, determined by the difficulty of the presented repertoire. Singers born after 2001 (women) and after 1999 (men) can enter the competition in the first category. The second category is open to singers born after 1992 (women) and singers born after 1989 (men).

The chair of the international jury is the renowned interpreter and pedagogue of vocal art, Eva Blahová (Slovakia). Together with her, the young talents will be judged by personalities such as Gabriela Beňačková (Czech Republic), Wiktor Bockman (Switzerland), Daniel Čapkovič (Slovakia), Peter Dvorský (Slovakia), Ariane Hollaender-Calix (Austria), Guy Montavon (Germany), Tadeusz Pszonka (Poland) and Martina Zadro (Croatia).

The top three awards in each category will be accompanied by attractive financial prizes.

Category I

  • 1st Prize 2.000 EUR  
  • 2nd Prize 1.500 EUR  
  • 3rd Prize 1.000 EUR

 

Category II

  • 1st Prize 3.000 EUR  
  • 2nd Prize 2.000 EUR  
  • 3rd Prize 1.500 EUR

 

In addition, several special prizes will be awarded, including the Chairman of the Self-Governing Trnava Region Award for a young talent up to 21 years, the Dr. Janko Blaho Award for a promising tenor and the prof. Maria Kišoňová-Hubová Award for the best performance of the song "Ružičky". 

In addition to the special prizes, the selected singers from the third round will have the opportunity to perform and make guest appearances in cooperating theatres in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
